Mark and I discovered today why owning pets will rip your heart out.
We had to make a very tough decision, and tomorrow our beloved Russell will be laid to rest.
We love him, and we are crushed beyond words.

Thank you Russ, for being the most amazing cat anyone could ever ask for.
You have won over the hearts of many a cat-hater and enforced to anyone who met you exactly why cats are so awesome.
We will miss you so, SO much.

I often wonder why we subject ourselves to this pain, when we know that we will outlive our pets.

And then I thought about all the memories. All the moments where being with you and Mark and Russ left me with an aching side from laughing so hard.

And I know that in the end, it is worth it. IT IS worth it. Because he made Mark happy, he made you happy, and he made so many others smile. Loss makes us bitter and protective of our hearts, grief leaves us crippled, but joy reveals just how much richer our lives are because of the animals we let share our lives.

There is a season for everything, and I'm sad that this is the season for Russ to leave. So, so sad. I can't imagine coming to your house and not having Russ there. But I know that with time, this too shall pass. We will never forget.

My heart breaks for you and Mark today, and I wish there was some way to fix it, some way I could help. But I know this is a step you have to take, and a hurt you have to process. I would take it for you, if I could.

You are on my heart, all day.

Thank you for letting me say goodbye to Russ. He looked me straight in the eyes, and I told him to fly high, to be happy and to sleep peacefully. But I never said a word...yet I know he heard me.

And if you need me, I will be at your house every single day when you get off work. Just so the house isn't lonely.

I love you, little sis.
SO big.
